Domaine les Perrières
Founded in 1794, Domaine les Perrières is one of Geneva's oldest family-operated estates. For more than eight generations, the Rochaix family has cultivated vineyards in the village of Peissy, at the heart of Satigny. Satigny is one of Switzerland's largest wine-growing communes not only in Geneva but for the entire country. From its earliest days, the estate has been defined by a dual commitment: honoring tradition while constantly adapting to the future. Today, with nearly 100 hectares of vines and 1.7 hectares of orchards, Les Perrières is among the largest private domaines in Switzerland, yet it remains firmly anchored in its family heritage.
The terroir is composed of molasse and clay-limestone soils, which lend structure, freshness, and minerality to the wines. But the estate's vision extends beyond grapes alone. Les Perrières has preserved a tradition of arboriculture, maintaining apple orchards alongside its vines. The family produces cider and fruit products while protecting heritage apple varieties, a living symbol of their holistic connection to the land. They've even revived a local curiosity in the "Picholette" bottle, a 28cl format once common in the Geneva countryside, now reintroduced as a playful nod to history.
Sustainability is at the heart of the estate's identity. Les Perrières farms under Production Intégrée (P.I.) standards and carries the GRTA (Genève Région – Terre Avenir) certification, both of which ensure environmentally conscious, transparent, and local production. The basics for this certification go far beyond the Bio Suisse certification of organic farming practices. Bio Suisse is recognized as one of the most stringent organic certifications in the world. It leaves little wiggle room to exploit the certificate, unlike some other domestic "organic" labels that we may recognize. Their approach goes beyond compliance: the estate integrates hedgerows, fruit trees, wildflowers, beehives, and birdhouses throughout the vineyards to foster biodiversity, reduce chemical inputs, and regenerate soil health. This form of regenerative farming not only strengthens vine resilience but also enriches the ecosystem, ensuring the land can thrive for generations to come.
From historic roots to modern ecological stewardship, Domaine les Perrières embodies the best of Geneva winemaking. These wines reflect the terroir of Geneva, a family that safeguards tradition, and a philosophy that places sustainability at the center of everything they do.
